This course covers all aspects of international trade and commodity finance from a practical viewpoint. Heavy emphasis is placed upon risk assessment and problem solving techniques, through a clear understanding of a customer's trade cycle. Whilst each of the banking products is dealt with in detail, great attention is paid to the effective and appropriate use of these mechanisms in meeting the customer's needs, with a view to generating remunerative and controllable business for the bank and the customer. The course is highly interactive and centres around the use of a variety of case studies, mostly based upon live files.

The course instructor has over 25 years' experience in the banking industry, 19 of which were devoted to the international trade finance and correspondent banking sectors.

The bulk of his banking career was spent with Bankers Trust Co, as a Vice President in the trade banking division, where he conducted business throughout Europe, Africa and the Middle East. He specialized in practical problem solving for major corporates and commodity traders, and carries those skills into his present day training and consultancy work.

For over 12 years the course instructor has worked as a consultant responsible for international trade courses. In all, the course instructor has provided training courses in over 30 countries.

Guest Speaker 3 is Head of Supply Chain Finance at Lloyds where he joined nine years ago. His experience encompasses US style Distribution Finance, Receivable Purchase and Supply Chain Finance. He introduced both Receivable Purchase and Supply Chain Finance as new to bank products within Lloyds. Prior to his twelve years experience in Trade Finance, he spent a decade in credit insurance where he was CEO of two leading Trade Credit Insurance businesses.

Guest Speaker 1 is a partner at Taylor Wessing and heads the Financial Disputes group where he specialises in dispute resolution and investigations in the banking and finance sector. He has wide-ranging experience in acting for financial institutions and companies in complex litigation and regulatory disputes.

He acts for banks and other financial institutions in all areas of contentious business, risk management and reputational risk, including contentious regulatory matters. He is recognised in the area of banking litigation by Chambers and Legal 500. Chambers notes that he is “charming yet relentless” and impresses sources for being able to “get to the objective of a case very quickly”.

He has a Masters of Law in Banking and Finance from the University of London (King’s College).

Guest Speaker 2 is the Divisional Director of the International Maritime Bureau and a Director of ICC Commercial Crime Services. He has been instrumental in identifying systematic international fraudsters, invited to provide evidence and appear as a witness in trade related criminal cases and assisted in the investigation of the largest fraud in trade finance history.

He oversees the daily operations of the Bureau’s London activities. In addition to advising member banks with suspect or irregular presentations, He closely co-ordinates with the IMB’s trading, shipping and insurance company members with regards to loss prevention and advice and works closely with the Piracy Reporting Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

He has travelled on investigations to a number of countries, spoken at numerous conferences and seminars worldwide and written papers on areas connected with the subject of fraud and malpractice in international trade.
